Centro Culturale Svizzero MilanA new cultural offer for a public to be won over. Pro Helvetia will be more active and present in Italy thanks to its recently established "antenna" in Milan. The first Pro Helvetia Swiss cultural centre in Italy is situated on the Piazza Cavour in the heart of Milan in a prestigious architectural complex constructed after the war by the Zurich architect Armin Melli. The cultural centre is endowed with a large multifunctional hall that can accommodate one hundred spectators and is highly suitable for exhibitions, lectures, concerts, presentations of books, symposiums, etc. It is also equipped with a media centre, a sort of multimedia information centre where visitors will find not only cultural reference works but also numerous CDs and two computers enabling them to read the CD-ROMs and to surf the Internet. The CCS therefore functions simultaneously as a documentation centre, a workplace and a platform for Swiss art and culture, capable of stimulating a close network of personal relations and contacts with different Italian institutions. Despite the close geographical and linguistic proximity of the two countries, Swiss culture and art are little known in Italy. In order that the imege of Switzerland is not limited to being an economic and touristic one, the aim of the CCS is to ensure the presence of Swiss culture and to encourage cultural exchanges throughout Italy.
