Pro Helvetia CracowCultural contacts between Poland and SwitzerlandThe Cracow branch of Pro Helvetia, the Arts Council of Switzerland, is located in the centre of Cracow, between the venerable market of the old town and the former Jewish quarter of Kazimierz, with its almost alternative atmosphere. The activities of Pro Helvetia Cracow focus first and foremost on promoting intercultural encounters and fostering contacts between cultural institutions and arts professionals from Poland and Switzerland. A further objective is to strengthen links among the Visegrad countries themselves. To this end Pro Helvetia Cracow works closely with the Pro Helvetia offices in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, and supports cultural projects that promote cultural contact between the Visegrad countries and Switzerland. Cultural exchange is intended to benefit both sides equally. Pro Helvetia Cracow supports and co-ordinates contemporary art projects showcasing Swiss culture in Poland and facilitating contacts between Polish, Swiss and Central European artists. Support is extended to projects in the domains of dance, theatre, literature, music, the visual arts, film and architecture that demonstrate high artistic quality and promise to have long-term effects. Where possible, Pro Helvetia Cracow also organises and co-produces cultural projects. Pro Helvetia's Cracow office serves as an information and contact facility for arts professionals from Poland and Switzerland. The library, which is open to the public, contains over 4000 works in the fields of Swiss literature, art, history, geography and politics, plus a variety of newspapers, magazines and CDs.
