Pro Helvetia Liaison Office South Africa
Pro Helvetia Liaison Office South Africa is one of the younger Pro Helvetia representations abroad, set up at the beginning of 1998, and the second base on the African continent beside the one in Cairo.
Although the Liaison Officehas its administrational office in the heart of Cape Town, it is set up with the characteristics of a mobile office to cover the whole of South Africa. At times the activites can spread out across the borders to incorporate other Southern African regions.
The principal aim of the Liaison Office South Africa is to encourage exchange between individuals and institutions operating in the cultural field in Switzerland and South Africa. As such it does hot have a venue or institute of its own, but rather makes use of existing cultural establishements in the region.
Being physically linked with the Consulate of Switzerland in Cape Town, by having an office space on its premises, Pro Helvetia Liaison Office South Africa cooperates closely with the Swiss diplomatic representations in South Africa. The office in Cape Town contains a small library on Swiss and South African culture, which is available to the public in office hours.
Involvement of Pro Helvetia Liaison Office South Africa can be in exchange projects in the fields of dance, theatre, visual arts, music and literature, or can take on the form of a symposium or research project, in cooperation with universities or alternative institutions.
