Pro Helvetia BratislavaA centre for cultural exchange in BratislavaPro Helvetia's "Centre for Swiss-Slovakian Cultural Exchange" was established in Bratislava in 1992 and officially took up its work in February 1993. Pro Helvetia is located in Bratislava's historical city centre, on the first floor of what used to be the Palais Balass. Today the building in Panska Street belongs to the Association of Slovakian Architects. Pro Helvetia has been allocated two magnificent rooms with baroque interiors. The surviving period decor includes wood panelling, decorative plasterwork on the ceilings, and original doors and fireplace. One room serves as an office, while the other provides space for conferences and the library. One of Pro Helvetia's tasks in Bratislava is to support projects - in the visual arts, literature, theatre, dance and music - initiated by Slovakian arts professionals. A further focus of activity is cultural exchange with Switzerland and with countries of the former Eastern bloc. Pro Helvetia also provides organisational help, particularly for international cultural events held in Slovakia. A library containing approximately 2000 volumes in the four national languages of Switzerland is open to the public. Shedding light on all aspects of Swiss culture, it features everything from literature to specialised scholarly publications. Swiss newspapers and magazines are particularly popular with the public. Many of Pro Helvetia's visitors are grant applicants. But the Bratislava branch office also does its best to supply schools and students with general information about Switzerland. Arts professionals receive more detailed information on the Swiss arts scene, Pro Helvetia's Zurich headquarters often providing the branch with useful backup. Pro Helvetia Opening hours: |
